Tarot Priestess/Daphne dress @ 75%!

I've finished all of the stitching for the dress~! The photoshoot is on Friday, so I have to complete the whole thing by then, but at this point, it's just adding shiny and orchids.

The key words for the costume were "high priestess" (after the Tarot card) and "greenhouse" (the location we're shooting in). So I wanted the shirt and skirt to have ridiculous amounts of flowy fabric, and get the bottom to look like flower petals. Also, white and silver. That's it. As pure-looking as possible.

And to see how creative I could get with materials. xD

My raw materials! Courtesy of an impromptu Savers trip.
-Gold window ornaments (~$2)
-Skanky top (~$3)
-Old bra (laying around!)
-Fake orchids ($5 at Michaels right next to work)
-Barrettes (lying around from earlier)
-2x white sheer + 1 striped sheer curtains, brand new (~$13 at Savers)

Initial draping! I just threw everything on the form and pinned it. No real substance here. I like to get a plan going, and an initial feel of how this whole thing will eventually look. Like a big lump of clay before you start carving in details.

Layer 1 (sheer) draped and pinned.

Layer 2 (striped) draped and pinned. Notice that the cascade is on the opposite side of the sheer - I don't want to overcrowd and make it too heavy, plus since it's a tie-around skirt, it's only held together at the very top and will eventually part somewhat when I walk. Everything busy on one side? Not a good idea, aesthetically.

The final "waterfall of fabric/petals" effect. I made a band of sheer to function as a hip scarf and to make the asymmetry a little more... symmetrical. Or compliment it, if you will. I just wanted it to be high on the hip and come down to a point where the two pieces joined. I'm thinking of adding silver beads to the tie strings. Fun little details, you know?

Total cost, involving odds and ends: Roughly $25 for the whole thing.

More pictures to come when finished, probably sometime tomorrow.
