My photography

So, I'm developing a little more interest in genuinely attempting to take pictures of people. Shots that really flow with who they are, not to mention being well-done shots in general.

I'm starting to think that I really like doing portraits.

Like this one of my good friend Sutman in his room. If you look past the clutter, you can see his awesome paintings, and I think that that's a really good representation of how I feel about him as a person. =)

Mum needed pictures of her taken for one reason or another, so I brought my camera home one day and took a bunch of shots of her in the garden. It suits her really well, and she built the entire place from scratch.

I like this one for a couple of reasons. One, because my mother's like a cat when it comes to sunbathing, and two because she's recently gotten into some of the more hoopty spiritualities that are out there. Crystals, auras, incense, you name it - mostly, I think, because she feels a need to believe in a peaceful, guiding force to counteract some of the horrific things she sees happen to people's lives every day.

So what do you guys think? I mean, I'm looking for more people to use as practice, but this seems like a fun thing to do.

And if you'd ever be interested in sitting for me, feel free to comment too. =)

Oh, man, the one of Sutman is absolutely amazing. I personally find the ones of your mother to be a little bit less approachable by comparison, but that might just have to do with me never having seen your mom before. It's cool to see where you got your eyes from.

My eyes? It might not seem like it, but mum's eyes are hazel. =) I get blue eyes from dad's dad.

I think she means just generally how they sit on your face (first time I think I've used that phrase and it not being dirty, hurrah).

I can definitely see it too.

Very nice work. If you get down to NYC will gladly swap modeling time for modeling time ;)

Gotta say, I'm never in NYC. =/

You do photography? I work with a few photographers up here, but I'm starting to like being on this side of the camera xD

Oh you must keep shooting. It is all part of the same wonderfulness but I really like your work. I have various stuff up over at one model place. Photographer 4829. Hmmm. AS for getting to NYC -- you should visit sometime -- many fine things to photograph after all :)
Drop me a line directly and we'll chat. Or at worst snag me next Intercon at one of the Jamais Vue games. (Ghu help us we are running two different amenesia larps!)

Well, I have to say I'm not really feeling the bleached washout of that first fella's face, he seems like a cypher with facial hair. However, all of the images make great use of mise en scene. You do a nice job of "painting in the corners". I also like the offsetting (sidelining) of the figures of interest in image 1 and 3, and the final one with your mom sunbathing touches a nice spot in my head and heart. It speaks to me!

If you wouldn't mind, I'd be up for being a model.

I actually went for the washout on purpose - specifically, to make his hair EVEN MORE CRAZY. Not that it needed my help. :P
And to make the background a darker contrast.

And I keep hearing from people how anyone who's met my mother loves that last picture, and those who haven't don't really go for it. Definitely seems like a personality thing. =)

That shot was actually an outtake - she was shaking leaves out of her hair and I took a picture because I liked it. Almost scrapped it, but decided to work it instead.

Eric's portrait is AWESOME. I think your composition is really strong there. I love the balance created by his head and his painting, that works really well.

Personally I like the first of the two photos of your mom. It really gives her this down to earth look and is over all just really serene. The sunflare in the second one just seems a bit to over powering for my tastes, but I guess I'd feel differently about it if I knew your mother personally.

Great photos!

I love the one of Sutman. It took so much work! You know him; you can imagine what the outtakes were like (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b108/hazliya/sm1.jpg). Considering how many frames I ended up taking, you can imagine how fast I had to be (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b108/hazliya/sm3.jpg) before he resorted to just being Sutman (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b108/hazliya/sm2.jpg). I think it's because he was nervous about pictures. =) [Easter eggs, what?]

If we go visit our friend in Wisconsin, he and I are totally stopping over in Chicago to bother you. And I will take pictures. Of him bothering you.

I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU GUYS TO COME AND BOTHER ME.

And those outtakes are fecking awesome.
