Collars!

So, a bunch of plain leather dog collars were discontinued at work. I also am in possession of a leather stamping kit, and an awesome idea came to me.

I'm going to make myself a custom collar!

Basically, they're super-soft, super-comfy collars with silver buckles. And real leather, too - finding real leather is a bitch, never mind at a reasonable price and comfort level. Especially for a human.

It occurred to me as I planned to make one for myself that other people on my f-list would probably be interested in them, too, so I snagged a bunch in a few different colors.

So the collars would be stamped with whatever you want (up to about 25 characters), and if you want extra stuff, like collar charms, I can make those too. Cost would be dependent on how custom you want it, like if you wanted crystals or chains hanging from it or whatnot. And the charms can be whatever - one of mine's going to be feathers and charm bracelet bits, probably. =)

Besides, as far as these go, if you like the way I design my jewelry, I can get just as creative with collar accessories. I'll also monogram the inside for you as part of the package if you want one.

Also, I'm only making a limited number of these (eight, specifically), so reserve one ASAP if you want one.

EDIT: Just added the ones I ordered to the list. It's bigger, but since people requested some already, the list already started shrinking.

Women tend to have necks ~13", and men tend to be up near ~14". And you order a little big. Almost all of my collars have been 14". I had one 12" that was a little on the big side.

So, if you see the size/color you want, first come, first served. Comment with the collar you want and the email you want me to talk details with.

This is going to be so much fun.

Don't suppose you'd want to send me an undecorated one to play around with? I can paypal you shipping costs. Though I'd like to see how dark the mahogany is compared to the black.

[identity profile] hazliya.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Why go through that effort? You can just stop by your local pet store and pick one up much faster and easier.

[identity profile] draike.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Because I have no car and it's much too far to walk? :P I can't always be pestering the boy to take me places. You and your logical answers. Jeez.

...and any excuse to avoid the pet store and adopt a cat is a good one. We're not impulse buyers but the urge to get a kitty or two is really starting to get to me, at least. XD

alternate economic collar plan

Goodwill or Salvation Army used belts.

With a little leatherworking skill you can turn a 1 dollar belt into 2 collars.

But I don't have that skill. =)

Really???

Me either but I made a pretty shoddy one back in the day. Most craft stores offer the supplies to do it. (As I recall mine may still be out on permenant loan.)

Nonetheless learning some basic leatherworking for accessories could be useful to you whatwithall the jewelerycraft.

Well, experimenting with leather still won't get me anywhere near professional quality, as these are. These are some pretty nice collars, well-sewn and tooled. I wouldn't want to make a crappy one for someone. I like quality.

Hrrm. I'd have to measure my neck. Tentative dibs on mahogany 16".

[identity profile] hntrpyanfar.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Snug-not-choking measuring tape says 14"... so I need the 16" one, yes?

I love the idea of keys to go with my earrings. :) If you have any lock/key stuff left. If not, knotwork sounds awesome.

I'm stumped on the stamping bits. I'll give it some thought then peg you an email. :)

!

This is obviously right up my alley. I imagine that a 16" black would fit me just fine.

csandel at the g to the mail.

Hey Haz it's Sarah. Steve told me about these, can I have the 14 inch rose pink one? And I don't know what I want on it yet, so can you send my a pic of it to help me decide?
Thanks

Noted! Check my latest post for pics.

They look awesome! I want to do with a heart theme. Thanks :)

[identity profile] hazliya.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Who's this? And, um, more details?

[identity profile] rigel.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm. I'm starting to wonder if 16" is too big. I have an impressively wide neck for a girl, though. :/ Maybe I should measure . . .

[identity profile] kooda6801.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...my neck is about 13.5" so I'm guessing that a 14" would be too small? You would know better than me since you've got them. I'll take a 16" mahogany, I s'pose, unless you think that a 14" would be better. I don't really have a theme in mind but I do really like your work, specifically your dragon earrings and your work with cogs/gears. (iheartbatmanhardcore at gmail)

[identity profile] hazliya.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry it's taken me forever to respond - I totally just got back from vacation.

I think you'd be better off with a 14, and as for theme, check out my latest post for some ideas?

[identity profile] kooda6801.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking of a heart/locket accompanied by gears, nuts, bolts, screws, chains -- stuff like that. Think of what a robot would throw-up if his/her insides got crushed. Does that make sense? You don't have to put a bunch of stuff on it though, just whatever you think looks good.

[identity profile] buddhagrrl.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] jingsaw suggested that we should get one on the assumption that statistically one out of any two people planning to sign up for it would end up needing a collar for your game next year (though we don't know which or if that's really true).

If you think this is true and want to decide for us who needs a collar and what it would look like, please do whatever you think would be suitable (cost flexible - just don't make me take out a second mortgage).

If nothing spectacular comes to mind, we forgive you this once.

[identity profile] hazliya.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's for game, you don't need one! I'll be handing out game collars at Interconz.

[personal profile] mneme 2009-06-29 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Does that me shouldn't bring our own?

:)

[identity profile] hazliya.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends. Are you planning to play in my game? =)

But in all seriousness, I'll be making collars for those cast as E-phos so as to have them be uniform.

Assuming it's at Intercon J, and I don't have a too-hard-to-break conflict, well, yeah.

But yeah, that makes sense -- uniform collars should be, well, uniform.

[identity profile] jalawingedone.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
You make such lovely stuff, my friend, but I find all but the most minimal jewelry bothers me and I end up not wearing any of it.
