Pictures: Adina de los Muertos

I gave in. Edited a whole bunch of photos. Maybe now I'll be able to write.

Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] in_water_writ for letting us use her place for makeup and prep. =) And of course to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] offside7 for being such a good sport and letting me paint her face.

Literally. Most of the pattern was done with acrylic.

Anyway, tons of fun and some gorgeous photos. [livejournal.com profile] offside7 was an awesome model, trusting me when I asked her to do weird things, promising that it would look good on camera. xD I'm so glad she made time to do this while she was in town!

Even got some in-progress shots of the makeup, if anyone's interested in a tutorial.

#1 is beautiful with the "Dream" necklass visible.
I really admire the smile & door of #4
but the way colors in her outfit work with the colors in the background of #7-10 is what is really unbeliveablly great.

(I like #6 but I think the artwork overpowers the model.)

I actually really like the simplicity of 7. I think it's that she's staring directly into the camera. The connection I feel from that is greatly at odds with the bleak surroundings and the, well, characterization, so it creates a really awesome effect.

It'd be cool to see a tutorial. (Acrylic!)

I think I like number six the most.

Although everytime you post these, I think to myself "That must be so much fun!"

I like 3, 9, and 10. I think they play to the fantasy of the makeup very well. In particular the shadows create some separation between the "mask" and the rest of her body which makes the paints work better than the pictures that show a smoother transition.

10 is my favorite

The colors are great and her stance and overall look is great, and overall the shot seems to be the one with the strongest implication of "there's a good story here ... maybe a creepy story you can't handle, but a good story nonetheless"

I think 6 is the most powerful, because it's the one that gives me the strongest sense of being looked at. It's the one that plays the memento mori sense the strongest. I think it's the one that plays up the beautiful/creepy dual sense the most.

Awesome pictures! Too many that I like to really pick- I started typing numbers and realized I had most of them listed. =)

Favorite: #10, no question. Backlit hair halos light around darkness. A train is arriving: beginnings, endings, journeys. She is the most real-looking thing in the picture (focus, foreground, brightness of colors) despite being fantastic; the everyday of the station, while active (train), is muted and background. And you can see her eyes either as human eyes looking at you (if you look carefully) or just absences. Creepy-cool.

#1, #8, and #2 are also way up there. (#8 has a lot of the same things going for it as #10, but the composition/framing in #10 is more compelling to me, and the colors in #8 are all bright.)

I think I'd like #6 more if the background were art I didn't find so instinctively familiar; it's slightly jarring somehow.

#4 and #5 have been growing on me as I flip back to look at pictures while writing this - particularly #4.
