So, my lil old camera is on its last legs. I need a new one. Things I'm looking for:

- Consumer grade. Not too fancy or expensive, expensive for me being over $300.
- Takes AA batteries and SD cards
- Has things like altering zoom, no timestamp option, timing, multiple picture setting, resolution options, exposure adjustment
- High quality, easy to use, durable

Any recommendations?

My Fujifilm FinePix S700 has been very good to me. It ran me about $240 with accessories. It has 10x optical zoom, which is a pleasant bump up from the low-end standard 3x. Its continuous shot is pretty slow - no better than a picture every 0.8s or thereabouts - and it isn't agile enough for action shots (my birds in flight always end up with nearly a full wingbeat of streak). But I've really liked working with it.

I can't recommend any particular camera, but you may want to consider battery life as well. With my camera, standard AA batteries last about one session, which is very annoying.

Check out the Canon Power-Shot A-series. I've been out of that market for a long time, so I don't have any particular model to look at, but if you don't mind doing a little digging yourself I'd suggest you check out the "A-Series" here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=113
