So, after spending weeks looking at The Dress every fifteen minutes, I finally called up some bridal salons and, through some effort, found one within a 50-mile-radius who carried it. Knowing that a trip to East Providence takes about an hour with traffic, I scheduled something and let myself mellow out in the knowledge that just because it's beautiful on the internet and on a model doesn't mean I'll like it in real life. Watching three seasons of Say Yes to the Dress has hammered that into my thick, Scottish skull.

However, as happens more often than not, I proved to be the exception to the rule.

I arrived at the salon, immediately feeling tiny in the midst of dozens upon dozens of mannequins and what had to be hundreds of gowns in the adjoining rooms alone. It was intimidating and overwhelming. But Ana, my consultant, made sure to pull me into one of the pedestal rooms, which limited the "OH GOD so much tulle" headache I was getting.

She invited me to pull a few while she found The Dress, and I pointed out a few I liked. The first two I tried on were "eh," at best; while they looked great, they weren't venue-appropriate or to my taste.

The she pulled The Dress.

The pictures didn't do it justice. The scattered, tiny beading glittered in the light, and the lace fell smooth and perfect against the silhouette. It corset-laced on the inside, then zipped over that seamlessly and the zip was lined with little glove-style buttons.

Not only did it fit me like a glove, it was a strapless dress that didn't go anywhere. Seriously - I tripped over the hem and everything, and the bust didn't budge an inch!

The best part was that when she finished zipping me up and brought me to the big mirror out front, the whole salon fell silent. Everyone came over, including a little girl who wouldn't stop telling me how pretty I looked.

I swear to God, I look better in this dress than the model for the designer's website.

AND AND the seamstress was in, and told me that not only can they a) order lace from the designer to make me a bolero shrug for ~$70, but b) they can make the bottom tier of the dress with the train detachable for the reception. When I suggested it, I totally thought they'd laugh at me. But no, the seamstress came over, poked at the skirt, and said "Yeah, I could totally do it."

VELCRO WEDDING DRESS FTW.

Also, since it fit me like a glove, they're okay with selling me the sample since ordering a dress would take 3-4 months. So, 15% off, available immediately, and they can mod it for me?

The universe wants me to own this dress.

I have an appointment on the 27th to show my family this dress. If I get their approval, I'm taking it home.

2 of 3 big wedding challenges? Done.

It's been a while since I updated on Elsa. She's almost six months now - and a seriously smart little thing.

She's getting fixed on Tuesday the 16th. I'm so nervous. Little dogs usually respond poorly to anesthesia. Or rather, worse than big dogs. But my vet is awesome, they have a great track record, and I comfort myself with the fact that if they can easily spay 2lb kittens, they can definitely spay a 4lb dog. Also, while she's under, she'll be microchipped.

She's also using the litterbox fully now. We're on step 3!
Step 1: Potty pads on floor.
Step 2: Potty pads in box.
Step 3: Litter in box!

She absolutely loves the litterbox. The transition went seamlessly, as I put in litter, she dug around, then went to the bathroom and came running over for a cookie.

The litterbox has some huge upsides. The house actually smells a whole lot better than when we used pads, we don't have to take her outside every 2 hours to relieve her tiny bladder, and she hasn't had an accident in the house since we made the switch, which is awesome. I guess since using the litterbox is fun, going to the bathroom has become an actively enjoyable activity. It also reinforces my theory that in her mind, pee on pads=pee on anything padlike. She'd thought it okay to pee on the kitchen rug and front hall doormat. But now with litter, there's nothing litterlike for her to generalize to.

Which further proves that she's a weird dog, since dogs typically can't generalize, and need to be trained to do so. Or maybe she's too smart for her own damn good.

The main downside to the litterbox is the fact that she loves to dig in it, and buries cookies in it to eat later. Nine times out of ten, she'll forget and leave it there, but still. We discourage her from doing that as much as possible.

She's on the head halter for walks now. I actually had to make one (thank god I can) since they don't sell one in Elsa's size, but it's amazing. She does spend about five minutes in "MOMMY I HATE YOU" mode at the beginning of the walk, but otherwise slips right into it. She no longer barks at geese (thanks to three weeks of threshold training) and has housebroken herself when she comes with me to the salon. Seriously. It's amazing. She learned that doors mean outside, and outside is where the strip of grass with all the pee is. So she runs up to the door and sits, waiting for me to clip her leash on.

Freaking genius dog. If this is what she's like at six months, I don't even know what she'll be capable of as an adult.

Speaking of growing up, she's in a chunkerbutt phase. See, puppies get lanky, then chunky, then lanky, then chunky, then even out to where they should be. And she is going from lanky to this slightly pudgy fluffball thing. And regularly spits out baby teeth into my hand.

On another note, Monday I groomed four Great Danes in a row. It was exhausting. My body is one big pulled muscle. It's very difficult to get a 180lb dog to do anything he doesn't feel like.

Time for tea and paperwork. And Ibuprofen.

A big part of my wedding planning process is Offbeat Bride, and I love that site like crazy. It's an excellent resource, with things like My Little Pony boutonnieres and Kill Bill-themed bridal party shots letting me feel like it's okay to not have a cookie-cutter (or even reasonably normal) wedding. I was worried about the budgeting, but apparently, serendipity is taking care of that for us.

The venue fell into our lap. It's a place I never thought of, since I spent so much time there as a child, but we stopped by while [livejournal.com profile] elenuial's parents were in town, then asked if it was available for weddings and if so, open on our date.

Yes. And you get both floors. And a full kitchen. And a lit fireplace. Oh, and it's 1/5 the price of most other venues. Are you a RI resident? Yes? 20% off. And it's on a Sunday? 15% off of that.

Catering is also going surprisingly well. One of the caterers we're meeting with did several weddings in my family, knows my father, and is happy to cut a deal as WELL AS delicious (the food, not the man).

But those are two things I really wasn't as invested in.

The one thing I was really fussing over was the photography. As a photographer (admittedly, total amateur), I'm super picky about who I want doing this thing. After all, this is the one day in my life I'm allowed to be this choosy, right? I looked at literally hundreds of wedding photographers, none of them catching my or [livejournal.com profile] elenuial's attention. Especially those that only had traditional weddings in their portfolios - we're going to go weird, and we want someone to rock that. Plus, wedding photography is goddamn expensive. For a decent photographer on a moderate package budget, the prices range from 3-5k.

I showed him Photo Pink, based in NYC, and we both agreed that we really liked the team's work. They're fun, and manage to do "pretty" and "weird" in the same shot.

That same day, they announced a contest on Offbeat Bride where Photo Pink was offering a 75% off wedding photography packages prize to winning weddings between January and March 2011. My heart jumped, then sank when I saw the deadline. Still, the criteria was "offbeat," and I figured that giving it a shot couldn't hurt. I sent them an email asking if they'd consider a May entrant, and got a response of "Depends. Show us what you got."

Half an hour of typing and describing our Japanese/Scottish nondenominational, gender-neutral, completely recyclable dance party wedding with an officiant who's been dead for 220 years- potentially with a time-travel theme - later, I sent it off and hoped for the best.

Just now (one day after sending it in), I got an email from the head photographer saying that she'd absolutely love to shoot our wedding personally, and would be happy to do the full works for $1k flat, more than 75% off her usual rate.

So a really top-shelf photographer at cheaper-than-cheap price?

Holy.

CRAP.

I'm waiting until [livejournal.com profile] elenuial comes home but man, if he agrees, we'll have the awesomest photographer in the world and THE singular biggest worry I have will be erased.

Knock on wood for the caterer to pan out.

T minus 44 hours until the Pupocalypse.

I still have a few small items to pick up, but nothing major. Her placemat and food dishes are on the floor in the kitchen, next to an airtight container holding her food. Vet appointment is set up. Toys collected into a laundry hamper. Crate assembled. Drawers labeled. Name tag made and attached to a collar.

[livejournal.com profile] elenuial has started to show interest in the puppy, which makes me indescribably happy. Not only has he decided to come with me to pick her up, but he's also (albeit begrudgingly) agreed to help out with feeding and taking her out for the first few months until she no longer needs to eat every six hours. With me working eight-hour shifts, and him being within walking distance from home plus flexible workdays, it seems like it'll be for the best until she's totally housebroken and can be trusted alone.

The crate will be in the living room so no one will be tempted to respond to begging.

Holy crap. The day after tomorrow, I'm getting a puppy. I will have a dog that my life will revolve around.

I'm so anxious, I don't know how I'm going to be able to sleep.

...aka I HAVE A NEW SLR ZOMG

This camera?

Sexy.

I shot with it for the first time yesterday when I went to the gardens with my mom. There was a great orchid center in one of the gardens, and I shot a lot of... weird... plants. And like, thirty ducklings with two moms.

This camera does absolutely nothing unless I tell it to. That's so hot.

I can't wait to start shooting models with the new camera. Seriously. I have Tuesday free, so I might troll for models on MM. =)

Portraits?

So, in the last few weeks, a good seven or eight people have asked me if I shoot portraits. Some to just have decent photos of themselves, some for business/professional purposes.

If I were to arrange a weekend or so with rates for shooting pictures, however plain or crazy you want them, would anyone be interested? Like, booking people by the hour. You get an hour of shooting whatever you want.

I will even shoot you nekkids. Or partially so. Seriously - a few people have wanted boudoir shots for their SOs. Those could work, too.

So, yeah. Portraits, fashion style/glamour, whatever. I need the practice, and proceeds will go into the Puppy Fund.

Comment if interested, and I can try to figure things out from there.

Bowie is sleeping in my bathrobe pocket.

I always tell you guys how cute this is, but I happened to have my camera nearby today.

Do not underestimate my snake's love for warm, fluffy places to curl up and sleep in.

I now have a tattoo.

And even though it's in a difficult area, I didn't move, speak, flinch, or twiddle! I sat still for a good hour. Granted, it went by quickly.

And even it's on bone and super-sensitive skin, I didn't flinch once. Even the first time the needle went into my skin.

My dick is so huge.

(Pictures to come later, along with more photos from shoots.)

WANT.

So, this is the female whose offspring I am being offered:

She's beautiful. And, after his wife comes back with the camera, the breeder will be sending me pictures of the individual babies. Here's one of the clutch:

That's $135 (including shipping~!) for a $150 -$300 (no shipping) snake.

And I can make my own custom enclosure cheap.

And have a breeding female in a year and a half.

And clutches are only available every couple of years.

Oh, man. This is getting harder and harder to pass up. This might end up my Christmas present to me.
