I am playing in the upcoming game!

This will (hopefully) take care of my LARP fix for a while. xD

I sent out questionnaires for the Intercon run of Better off Dead yesterday. I've gotten over half of them back. Already, I'm seeing some interesting things.

First off, there have been a number of people who do not want key elements of the game in their casting. Like being disliked at all. Or dressing up (the game has the word "prom" in the damn title!).

Know what that tells me about you? That you either a) did not read the game description, b) do not remember what it was like to be a teenager, or c) grew up in a bubble.

This game is set at a high school prom. Of course there is going to be drama, and of course no one is liked by everyone. They're teenagers, for fuck's sake! This is not the High School of Peace and Love. If you want to play someone loved by everyone, go play in the goddamn Rainbow-Brite larp.

Second, if you give them the option, 80% of male players will list "sexy librarian" as a character they'd be interested in playing. I approve.

So, I acquired a bunch of 80s music for Better off Dead. Here is a printout of my list so far. Warning: it's a PDF. I don't know how to get iTunes to export my playlist as a text document. And the music isn't organized in any way.

Basically: What's not on there that you'd expect to hear at an 80s prom?

"Hello, lovely larp community!

My name is Phoebe Roberts. As you may know, this next April 8th-10th I will be chairing LARPERCALIA: Festival of the Larps 2011, Brandeis' very own free larp convention. This will be our sixth annual event, and we want every year to keep getting better. In an effort to get the schedule set down early, I hereby invite anyone who's interested to submit bids for games they would like to run at our Festival this spring. From now until January we will be accepting bids, and hope to be able to present a relatively finalized con schedule by the beginning of that month.

If you're interested in running something, please fill out the bid form on the Festival website. If you have any questions about Festival, whether you'd like to run something or just what it's like to attend, don't hesitate to e-mail me and I'd be happy to answer anything you want to know.

Here's to another great Festival, and looking forward to seeing you all in April!

Your loving con chair, [livejournal.com profile] _dragonwolf_"

Seriously, guys. Bid and play in games at Festival. I've been going for the last few years, and had a blast every time.

I'm running a game there. You should too.

So, this weekend I only played in one game: [livejournal.com profile] mllelaurel and [livejournal.com profile] wired_lizard's Sound of Drums.

It was an interesting experience for me in general. I had a lot of fun, despite not being super interested in the game upon first reading the description.

I played Greenleaf, a Leyanti with a big heart and a chatty side.

My game experience - spoiler warning! )

Though the dress held up really well (it was awesome, and I was complimented on it a lot!), should I wear it again or lend it to someone, I would definitely consider boxers. I didn't realize how much time I would be spending in chairs or on the floor, which definitely changes costume logistics. xD

We really need players for Martha Stewart's Guide on the Friday of SLAW (the 19th). We haven't cast yet. If you, or anyone you know, has that friday free and wants a good time, let us know! Either gender is fine, as is repeat players. Seriously, we need five more players to be at the minimum for the game.

There will be cookies and punch. And love for you.

Signal boosts greatly appreciated.

So, the costume I made for the Al-Ashtara game also doubled as a great halloween costume, especially as one of my favorite characters ever, Scheherazade. So I called up one of my favorite photographers and he was all for it. =) The waterfall was awesome, especially because I could pretty much climb right on top of the rocks at low "tide," as it were.

And I love that book.

Photos below the cut. )

I think I should make one of these into an icon. Any favorites? Not necessarily for an icon, but in general? I tried some new things with this set.

I had fun! I got to wear a costume that gave me a method of displaying intimacy! I was fully veiled out in public, but would only fold it back when around someone I knew well or trusted.

Here's my Zaina costume, minus head veil:

Bigger version under cut. )

It's my all-curtain, all-the-time costume (seriously, the skirt had two layers of train and pooled awesomely), complete with stick-on rhinestones. I got to do other people's makeup. And be jangly. It was v. fun, and my costume doubles well as a Scheherazade costume, who is one of my favorite people ever.

I might have some in-progress shots of the costume, if anyone would be interested in seeing how to make this stuff.

So, Martha's still needs like, ten players. Seriously. It won't be running again. DO EET.

Intercon K signups are tonight. I want to play in Interesting Times, but with the GMs' record for rerunning games, I'm hoping that they'll run it again before I leave for Japan, like maybe at... Brandeis Festival in April? Hint hint?

Anyway, so I'm still undecided. And I've heard a lot of people saying that they want to sign up for Better off Dead, and there aren't a whole lot of spots. I'll probably end up writing a few more in, so if you're on the waitlist, don't be bummed.

That being said, I would be so happy seeing you guys' names on my player roster. You make me happy.

So, Martha's is running again at SLAW, despite my huge reservations on the idea. For one, I think it's run too many times in so short a period. Two, a lot of people who would enjoy the game have already played, and three, while it is newbie-friendly, it's not nearly interesting enough to grab a lot of new people's attention. But I was asked to run it, and it's minimal setup, so eh. It's out of my hands now.

This got me to thinking. The game is only half full. And there have been a few people expressing the desire to play again, either as their old character or a new one.

Therefore, if we still have space in the game as of 11/1 (giving me three weeks to get out questionnaires and do casting), I'm opening it to people who have played before and want to play again. Whatever that means is up to you, but if you want to, there's an option for you.

EDIT: Oops, website is here.
hazliya: (Default)
Open spots, as of this moment: 6M, 2F.

Not bad for having opened signups yesterday.
hazliya: (Default)
Fuck it, we're doing this on Saturday, December 4th. Probably afternoon. Brandeis.

Shoot me an email at hazharrower at gmail to sign up. Bunch of slots already filled.

Again, signal boostage much appreciated.
hazliya: (pink falls)
So, despite schedule conflicts of RPI's larp weekend and weddings around it, it seems like 10/23 is the date winner for re-running Leash.

It can take 30 people. Ideally, I would like it to have all 30. But if people are going to be at the RPI weekend, I might be screwed for players. We'll see, and if the game fills, we won't need to reschedule. =/

I can take 16 M and 14 F.

Signal boost greatly appreciated. =)

EDIT: Nope, date fail. Something else is already running that day. I think I need to do this the 17th.
hazliya: (solarblue)
I spent some of my downtime today designing a school crest for Necropolis High for the larp. I even have all of the characters vaguely outlined, too, and am really starting to get myself into the world.

I found the school motto on a heraldry site. Very appropriate.

I've never made a school crest before - I think it turned out well!

... Except it kind of looks like something you'd see in Avril Lavigne's tween girl clothing line.
hazliya: (Default)
Step 1: Propose a ridiculous larp.

Step 2: Create ridiculous characters.

Step 3: Name them using my Simple Steps to Success:

Have someone on hand. Have them call out two numbers between one and a thousand.

Match them up here and here.

Step 4: Let hilarity like Liberty Carney and Zaid Puckett ensue. We got some awesome ones. But we can't tell you them because they're in the game.

Seriously. Haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
hazliya: (Default)
So, since we're approaching maximum and there's only two weeks left to Vestival, [livejournal.com profile] elenuial has decided to freeze the game numbers soon so that we can rewrite the characters accordingly and then cast.

If you or someone you know is waffling about whether or not to play, please encourage them to sign up soon! We really can't wait forever. =/
hazliya: (Default)
I should bid my game for Intercon K.

But it needs a name. Something John Hughes-themed?

[Poll #1546704]
hazliya: (Default)
I know everyone's plugged this a million times, but seriously. Vestival. Two weeks. Awesome games.

Now, the main highlight of this plug: [livejournal.com profile] elenuial is writing a game, and I am helping. It is going to be complete and total hilarity. Short character sheets, LOTS and LOTS OF ACTING.

We have six spots open, and we really, really want to see those characters filled. They're awesome, and ones that pretty much anybody could have fun with.

It's the Lady Gaga Had a Drunken Threesome with William Gibson and a Microwave Oven Game.

If you have ever wanted to be part of a boy band, act like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton, consider becoming Amish except you're on Rumspringa, talk like Ryan Seacrest, or act competitively ridiculous for attention and money, wish granted.

Play in it. It'll be freaking hilarious.
