SO!

I have discovered Corda D'Oro/Kiniro no Corda (from the same people who made Angelique, NeoRomance).

Plot in a nutshell: You play Hino Kahoko, a second-year gen-ed student at a school with an exceptional music program. One day, you encounter a Fairy of Music, who gives you the gift of a magical violin. Suddenly, he chooses you as one of the participants of the Intraschool Music Concours, a high-distinction professional-level competition among classmates, despite the fact that you've never played an instrument before in your life. You bond with your TA, professor, and fellow contestants as well as try your best to play the magic violin and win the concours.

Right now, the anime series is being fansubbed by Strawberry Mint Subs, who are doing a fantastic job. Some of the things I like about this series:

- The music. Corda is making classical music hot again, both by using it as background AND focus. Each episode and the game showcase dozens upon dozens of pieces and composers, including one of my ultimate favorites ("Petit Chien" by Chopin, aka Waltz of the Puppy). It makes me want to take up piano again.

- The trivia. At the end of each episode, Lili (the fairy of music) has a music trivia quiz. It's funny seeing Beethoven drawn anime-style xD

- You can have a love ending with another girl. I kid you not - one of the possible love endings is the shy clarinet player who worships you. It's adorable.

- You can have a love ending with a teacher. Again, I kid you not - you're not limited to your fellow contestants. You can chase the supervising teacher AND the TA, who was a past champion.

- You can fall in love with the evil guy. IT'S TRUE. One of your competitors is the stunningly handsome, sweet-to-everyone and utterly perfect in every way (complete with fan club) flutist. Midway through the series, however, he is revealed to be a complete and total cruel and manipulative two-faced sadist. And you're the only one who knows, and no one else will believe you. He knows this, and torments you at every turn. So he is the quintessential villain, and you can have a LOVE ENDING WITH HIM ANYWAY. It's fucking amazing.

There are more things, but yeah. Those are some big ones. I highly recommend it. They've translated 18 of the 25 episodes, and come out with roughly 2 per month. I'll be happy to share them with people.

EDIT: I've linked characters above to their pictures so you can better see what I'm talking about. =)
