So!

I decided today (the day before auditions, go figure) that I will not be auditioning for Romeo and Juliet.

And I am proud of myself for resolving so. Mainly for these reasons:

1. Time.
I want to start working a part-time job. So, needing to work nights is not a good idea around a hell week schedule when starting. Later on, it can be excusable, but the term before I need to go away for christmas? Not so much. Plus, I have new classes at a new school, and if I've learned anything from the last few years, it's that I need to manage my time better.

2. Play.
I don't like R+J. Really. I know it's the quintessential love story and blah blah, but I've always read it as a pair of melodramatic teenagers take it stupidly far. Plus, do I really want to be in a show where everyone in the audience knows my lines? Or worse, thinks they do?

3. Role.
The role I would be going for would most likely be (surprise!) Juliet. In addition to what I said about lines above, I've already been the lead in a Shakespeare play. They don't happen often at WPI - let someone else have it. And as much diva status as you get from playing Juliet, I'm not sure I want to play a character I wouldn't enjoy. =/

4. Crew.
I want to keep trying different things when it comes to participating in a show. This time around, I've been given the job of photography for it - a pretty big deal, and a good chance for me to spread my wings when photographing people. And be excessively creative.

So there it is. I'll still be there tomorrow and possibly weds to take pictures, but no acting this term for me.

It's a relief - and now the naysayers can shut the klaptrap up. =)
