So, I'm in a pirate-themed game at Intercon (Sassy Pirate Wenches on the Island of Stern Viking Yarls). It has been pointed out to me that I need no costume shopping, seeing as I have a fully functional pirate costume laying in bits around my house.

However, I have no idea what my character is like and the costume is decidedly French. French and snarky. And a little skanky, but that can be fixed.

Hmm. But I don't think it'll be a big deal unless my character is super-patriotic or has a defining characteristic of a nationality (ie an accent).

I also have a sizable Chinese embroidery wardrobe for Jade Emperor's Celestial Tournament, but it's primarily dresses. =/ And I might be cast as a cross-dresser. Or a ghost. Or both.

And I'm going to be cleaning and rearranging my clothes, as well as putting some things into storage. Here's where the dilemma lies: Do I keep out only essentials and dig for stuff later or go ahead and pack my costuming away, knowing I'll need to dig it out again in a couple months?

I'm lazy.

Went to Building 19 just now. In the front of the store, there were racks and displays of hats, gloves, and scarves. There was a five-year-old (or equally small) boy who found one of the faux fur-lined hunter's hats (the ones that are normally associated with Russian soldiers) and pulled it on his head enthusiastically while his mother looked at scarves.

Then the kid makes an angry face and, in one of the best Russian accents I have ever heard, utters the phrase:
"Think again, Mr. Bond."

And in my eyes, the kid had become ten times more adorable. My kudos to his mother for letting him have the hat, otherwise I might have bought it for him myself. Seeing the looks on people's faces as he went around addressing them as "Da, komrade" was so worth more than $3.

Number of tolerable children in the world, by my count: +1

...there is now a graphic novel series entitled "Return to Labyrinth," a continuation of the 1986 Jim Henson movie. In it, Toby has grown up some and is in line to become the next Goblin King, but has to go through everything that comes with the territory.

Gotta say, I'm a fan of the covers. And the premise sounds interesting.

I might have to give this one a go.

EDIT: The (very pretty)cover for vol. 2 can be found here.

Newsweek has a neat steampunk photo article here. I especially love the laptop that looks like a jewelry box until you open it.

And I am now the proud owner of 50+ clock gears, 20 ornate vintage clock hands, and various other bits of scrap metal to make some of the steampunk designs that I've had running through my head for months.

Would anyone actually wear steampunk jewelry? Not as costume, but in everyday life? If so, I might design a few more than I originally intended for people.

How would everyone feel about a catholic schoolgirl larp?

EDIT: Just so y'all know, the central bit of the larp would be anarchy and rebellion. But not in the angsty teenage way of rebelling, more like organized "daddy-has-a-private-military" way. =)
