So, today's Microbio lecture was about DNA replication and gene mutation, part of which was the combination of DNA/mating of E-coli. He had two boxes up front, one with a hose sticking out of it and green post-its all over, and the other bare except for a hole in the side.
Apparently, the green things were representative of I-proteins that block the receiving of DNA. This, we were told, was an F+ cell. The other, without them, was F-. When explaining how "mating" worked, such quotes as:
"See this? The green ones keep you from mating with yourself. See? (bangs hose around) Mating with yourself is bad."
"So I guess the one with the thingy is the 'guy' e-coli and the one without is a 'female' e-coli... damn. I really didn't want to go there."
"So I guess size really does matter. Sorry, guys."
"And so we take the transfer protein...(picks up hose) and merge it with the F- cell... (tries to jam it into the hole) ...the F- cell... *slam slam slam* ...the... *slam smush slam slam* Right. (tosses down the hose) Typical male."
...and things of that nature. It was entertaining.
In other news, scheduled some photo shoots with Matt for a few things. Tomorrow we'll be doing a fashion show-thing, and then weds we'll be going to Salvation Army (anyone else want to go?) and possibly the first shoot. Hehe. Excited. I'll finally have ome good pics of myself that are RECENT - maybe taken in higgins while the flowers are blooming and all that.
I've also been having bad migranes lately. Gonna get that checked out.
So, whee! Good mood today. And my first public post in a while went okay, so I'll keep leaving them public until I have reason to change that.
