I have totally been there. I "lost" mine at the gym about 4 years ago... After searching literally EVERYWHERE for it (Andrew even convinced the gym management to let him go through the trash...); yeah, it was in a "safe place where I wouldn't forget it" - an inner pocket of my gym backpack. Oops.
