Character depth in a fanservice game?

hazliyaSo, I've been actually finding character nuances in the Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball game, which is essentially all of the female DOA fighters in bikinis, playing volleyball and getting wet.
But there's a whole other side of the game - the dramalicious and catty dating-sim-esque process of schmoozing and partnering up. Like you can exchange or leave gifts to any of the girls, partner with them if they like you enough, etc.. And the more they like you, the better partners they are.
That's basic stuff. Like some girls will like certain gifts, and it's harder to get girls to wear sluttier bathing suits, all that.
But what I've been discovering is that if you beat girls you're wooing at volleyball, some of them will be impressed (the butch ones like Christie and Tina) while others will be bitchy (Ayane and Helena). Or that if you steal a girl away from her current partner, said partner will dislike you. And if a girl gives you a swimsuit, she likes you more if she sees you wearing it.
It's girl politics! In an assumed made-for-guys game!
But what really got me on this train of thought is noticing the cheering. The more a girl likes you, the more she'll cheer for you if you spike/serve well, and thus the more bonus points you'll get. And when you're about to serve, your teammate cheers you on.
For example, Hitomi and Leifang (the super nice girls) will say "Ganbare!" (You can do it!)
Kasumi and Lisa (pretty nice) say "Wai! Ikimasho!" (Yay! Let's go!)
Christie (ice queen) says "Ikimasho ka?" (Are we doing this or what?)
...and what makes me laugh is Ayane, the all-around bitch. In her "cheer," I distinctly hear the words for "Hurry up" (hyaku) and what seems to translate to "useless." xD
It's great. It's like bring back in middle school, except no nuns.
EDIT: Backstory counts here, too! Like how Christie was an assassin sent to kill Helena, or Kasumi abandoned Ayane's ninja clan. It's near impossible to get them to like each other, and if you do manage to, they aren't happy about it. Also, TOTALLY hardest to get Tina (busty, loud American xD) to like ANYONE except the one other American on the island. Love it.
And the game encourages favoritism. I, personally, tend to favor Christie (mantis-style ice queen) and her polar opposite, Leifang (big bubbly chinese ball of cute). Adam likes Hitomi because she's half-japanese (the other half german) and loves to cook. And maybe because a bunch of her swimsuits are actually cheerleader uniforms...? =P
