That little guy there is a hummingbird moth. They're semi-rare in these parts, but Mum and I are lucky enough to see a few of them in the garden each year. They're about the same size and flight pattern as hummingbirds, hence their name, but the major difference is that these little guys have a curled proboscis when you look closely enough. Other than that and still photography, it's so hard to tell the difference.

But he's awesome. I love seeing them around. The whole glasswing family is gorgeous.

And this is a picture from my visit to the Butterfly Sanctuary at Kuranda in Australia (click on it to see the rest of the album). That moth was larger than my hand. I'm not sure if we've got anything of the sort anywhere near here (probably not, I think the temperatures prohibit it), but I think you'd really enjoy going to one.

And here's a picture of a house centipede I met in my old bathroom, because they're freaky, but awfully cool. Also they eat bad bugs and like to hang out in warm humid places with little light.

They have bunches of those moths in the Boston MoS butterfly garden. I remember - that's where I donated Eblis (my eastern black swallowtail) to.

I like Morpho butterflies, too - they're pretty, but cheeky.

And that centipede is awesome. It looks like a cave crawler.
