The seven he chose were:
1. catfish as pets - Okay, this one's a little bizarre, I guess. But people poke fun at me for wanting a catfish as a pet. I think they're so cute! Adorable, even, if a little dopey. I just love the whiskers and all the patterns they come in. They even have tiny pet-sized species now in pet stores! But no - whenever I talk about how cute I find them,
elenuial shoots me down with a "Catfish are for eating!" and that's that. Sigh.
2. even numbers - I can be a little OCD at times. I like things grouped evenly, and in even numbers. And doing things an even number of times. Or an even number of things. For anyone who has ever seen me eat a bag of Skittles, you know what I mean.
3. knotwork - I love knotwork. Both in rope, for devious and not-so-devious purposes, and Celtic knotwork as art. I was given a book some years back on how to create/draw celtic knotwork, but I really haven't given it much effort. But I think it's so neat and flowy when done well.
4. masks - This one's a little more complex, I suppose. I like the art of mask-making, especially the cured leather masks with pointed noses, slanted eyes, and smooth shapes. I also like the old Venetian masks, as well as fantasy masks for movies and costumes and all of that. But I also find the psychological/emotional mask-making fascinating. From the people who purposefully create personas to those who have no idea that they fade in and out, I think it's amazing.
5. nyarlathotep - This one comes from a few things. One is the obvious Lovecraft Outer God, the subject of much fun-poking and parody, and the other was a hysterical character that showed up briefly in a webcomic I read some time ago. He was Nyarlathotep, the God of Chaos' physical incarnation, and he used his tentacles to pick up girls in bars, like so:
N: "Ladies, have you ever had every orfice in your body penetrated by smooth, muscular, bulging appendages with full dexterity in every inch?"
(pause)
G1: "Yeah, I'd hit that."
G2: "No way! I saw him first!"
6. old abandoned buildings - I'm an architecture geek. My favorite period is Art Nouveau, mostly because of the smoothness and flow of the style. But any and all buildings, after being abandoned for a good many years, seem to develop this wonderful charm and mystery that makes for great photographs and nifty thinking spots. That's why I like ruins so much - that, and you can spend hours imagining what used to be there.
7. stacking things - It's fun! Especially weird stuff. And on people. Or stuffonmycat.com.
Comment if you want me to pick seven of your interests for you to do the same.
