And they're like... it's better than yours.
morethings5 mentioned forever ago that he'd be up for a shoot. I don't normally work with male models, and he's one of the cool kids, so I agreed that it needed to happen. I got my hands on some musk deer antlers, he mentioned a pretty bit of wilderness that he liked to tromp around in, and it kind of snowballed from there.
_dragonwolf_ was kind enough to let us use her place as a base of operations, and was an excellent source of opinions and, at times, bouts of hysterical laughter as we went through prep. We definitely all agreed that we were going for an artistic imagining of a deer spirit rather than furry-level enthusiasm and costume, and I know that he and I had talked about wanting to go for a more genderfluid, androgynous kind of feel, and I tried to factor that into the way I was shooting.
So after layers of makeup and shredding/pinning a linen sheet into a toga (of which
_dragonwolf_ had a breadth of experience, though I like to pretend she secretly wears them around when no one's looking, not that she had to do them for a play xD) we drove off into the magical woodlands of Waltham.
(also,
morethings5 discovered the impracticality of having horns when one has to walk through doorways or drive a car.)
( Photos! )I really like how these came out. I will also admit to a certain level of self-interest in this shoot, as I kind of wanted to prove to myself that I can work in not-bright-colors-all-the-time.
But he was a trooper, letting me strap antlers (albeit cleaned and stripped) to his head and climbing around barefoot in the leaf litter and up rocks and trees, though there was no shortage of snarky commentary. I like snarky models. =)
What do you guys think of the first subdued-toned shoot I've done in a while?
