So, my EEE runs Linux. I am happy about this, and learning linux slowly.

My problem is printing. Adam has an HP laser p1006, and while it's clearly detected, it will not print. It says that there's a driver, but my printer isn't on the supported list. So what do I do?

And, should that not work, does anyone have a printer I can use on Thursday? I'll supply my own paper, and possibly baked goods in thanks later on!

I didn't know you had an Eee!

Yeah, I had trouble printing from mine too, but I didn't work on it too hard since I have other computers about.

I assume you've tried these instructions? http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:addwindowsprinter

What flavor of Linux? I like the Ubuntu family myself.

Try Wine (http://appdb.winehq.org/)? I don't know if it helps for hardware issues, but it's good for many other things if you're not already using it.

In case you can't get this to work: I'll have a printer at the con (as of thurs night). Alternatively, if you send me what you want printed early Thursday, I can send it through our high volume\speed printer (but I'm leaving here at ~4 thursday for the thursday thing, so it would have to be before that)

How much are you printing? I have many laser printers at my disposal here at work - b&w and color.

A good couple of hundred pages. I have to print out 30 character sheets, at an average of 3-4 pages, as well as 15 bluesheets at 3 pages or so.

Ok, that's more than I would want to put through my work printers.

Let me make some phone calls though, I have access to a copy machine that I may be able to use.

Definitely within what I'm willing to print on our high volume printer (we bought it largely to speed print weekend long larps with 10k+ pages)

Did you figure out what you're doing printinwise?

Also, I think I have a replacement player for you if you still need one, but probably not a guy unfortunately :(

Googling turned up some promising things.

Try this: http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/

That said, I suspect easiest is just to have [livejournal.com profile] zrealm print stuff for you.

Provided with paper I could print these for you very easily, but it would involve you needing to come to my house.
