I love them but find them amazingly challenging to write so I onyl return hand written notes. Overall its something I should always have been better at. I suspect my childhood spelling challenges were responsible for it.
When I was in high school, I had a specific day of the week that I wrote a letter to a different girl I liked. I had crushes on eight girls, so there were two who switched off every other Sunday.
A) Somewhere, someday, there is going to be a very, very large tome of the Unauthorized Collected Embarrassing Letters of Gower.
B) This approach never got me anywhere with any one of them.
It's really the handwriting. I love hand written letters... but my penmanship is so bad that I'm too ashamed to write them and feel like it would be disrespectful of someone who did write to return the correspondence in my slovenly hand... also my spelling is pathetic... so all in all it's good we have computers or I would only ever talk to people.
Never the less I think hand written letters have great meaning.
That's true. I'm so used to typing now that in order to write neatly I really have to focus. My penmanship isn't totally illegible, but it is certainly a lot less neat than it was in grade school and also takes me longer to write anything. My hands have becomes spoiled!
I do, however, sometimes type actual letters in pretty fonts, which is almost as good, and I always sign my name at the bottom. :p
Oh you'd hate me then. I'm one of those kinds of people who I get a nice card and go, "I'm going to send one back!" And then my mind goes somewhere else, and then I don't remember what I wanted to do until 2 weeks later.
I keep meaning to send my boyfriend's mother a thank-you card because she does a lot of nice things for not only me but everyone in the house (including folding my laundry, sending me home trays of her meatloaf which I love, and making me sandwiches without olives because I hate them), and I just keep freaking forgetting to do it.
