Bollywood TRL: not total WTF

So, whenever I go out to Surya, they have a flatscreen that constantly plays Bollywood music videos in the main dining room. Most (at least 95%) of them are ridiculous, usually involving dance clubs and some pretty amazing costumes, but once in a while, one will catch my eye.

Man, that is some serious beadwork.

I wish I'd learned to bellydance when I'd had the chance. It seems like something I'd enjoy ridiculous amounts.

There are drop-in lessons out here on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The lessons on Thursdays are from a woman who is a total sweetheart, but legally blind. Her class ramps up and down quite a bit, depending on who happens to walk in that day.

Tuesday lessons are from a close friend of mine who is just starting out teaching and could use the experience. Also, I had been meaning to introduce the two of you for your mutual love of jewelrymaking (which she is currently studying).

They're both very casual.

"Bellydance" or "tribal fusion" can mean a lot of different things. Usually "bellydance" is more based on Middle East rather than Indian traditions.

I took a bellydance class my last semester of college and had a BLAST, but part of what we did was look at the dance traditions of different countries and popular groups, and whether what various artists did respected their bodies and/or the traditions they claimed to represent. Some yeses and some not so muches.
