So, someone suggested I try AVG to get rid of my google problem.

I download it.

I scan.

MY LAPTOP BREAKS.

Seriously. As soon as I click to finish the scan, my system crashes and no longer fully boots. I can get into the advanced options menu fine, but as soon as it gets to the point where it'd ask me to choose a user, it just starts all over again. I can't even boot safe mode.

I'm so pissed off right now. This is ridiculous. Anti-fucking-malware did more damage than that stupid bug.

I don't know what to do. I'm clueless when it comes to booting. If anyone can help, please give me a call/email. I'm on [livejournal.com profile] elenuial's computer for now, and I'm free until about 5 tonight.

There are baked goods in it for anyone who can make my laptop function again. Even if it's just to get my files off of it.

Assuming you have access to a second computer with a CD burner, the easiest way to get files off of it is to burn an ubuntu live-cd to a cd and then boot off of that. It will boot linux in a graphical interface which should let you copy things to a CD\flash drive\ipod in HD mode:

1. Get the files you really care about off the machine. A live CD is one of the easier ways I can think of to do this.

2. After you have your backup, boot from a Windows XP install CD and try the Repair mode. I believe I have an original XP CD if you do not. If the Repair works, you'll want to check Windows Update right away - there may be one or two system files that need to be brought up to speed after the repair.

Try booting in safe mode. As the computer is starting up, press the F8 key. If you get it at the right time (right between where the system checks the ram and where the windows logo comes up), you'll get a menu of startup options, including Safe Mode.

IAWTC. Let me know if you need more help. If you haven't figured it out by the time you have to leave, bring it to Gamestop in Greendale and tell them it's for me. Tuesdays are usually slow. I can drop it by omw home.
