Does anyone have an XP disk that I can borrow?

I'm just going to reformat it. Blank slate. I've had enough.

Even though I found the problem (stop c000021a, so it's my logon screen), I don't have any idea how to fix it.

So I just need to etch-a-sketch my laptop. If you have a disk to lend, please let me know.

(Also, windows 7 hates me. I'd rather avoid it if I can.)

I have one, but you can probably get one nearer to you.

If you told me you wanted a straight up XP disc, I could have hooked you up with that. I thought you wanted a recovery disc.

Anyway, I have one.

IIRC, the XP install disk does come with some minimal recovery utilities - at the very first menu you can choose Install or Repair.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] hazliya, do you have a key for XP Home or XP Pro? ...I fear I've lost the disk in either case, but I don't want you getting one that doesn't work with your key.

It does give you the option to "fix" your installation, but it uses Microsoft hoopdy logic to do it, and doesn't really allow you to have much interaction other than "Go!"

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] hazliya, I brought my disc to work so I can bring it to my second job tonight if you want to come pick it up there. It's an XP Pro disc.

Hey, if it boots into safe mode, I'd recommend booting into there and removing your graphics adapter. Usually the only time a desktop system dies at the logon screen is graphics corruption. You could also try doing regedit from safe mode, then go to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run (I think, this is off the top of my head) and rip out everything that starts on boot, starting with the last thing you installed.
