Long and short of it: My PCP is an hour away. I needed to get on a new birth control pill. I mixed up the appointment time, and therefore missed my appointment.

I need to start taking the pills on Sunday.

This was a problem.

I'd heard that Planned Parenthood could dole out prescriptions, and not only do they take my insurance, but also walk-ins from 9-3 on Fridays. And it's ten minutes from my house.

After getting through security, despite a full waiting room, I only had to wait for about twenty minutes before being seen. It was low-fuss, the nurses were very nice and very efficient, and it was basically a matter of:
"No health problems?"
"Nope. Just wanna be back on the pill."
"Here are some mandatory questions."
"I will answer them."
"You are not at risk. Yay!"
"Yay!"

So, less than two hours total (that's including getting through security and new patient intake procedure) and $15 later, I was handed a prescription for the pills I needed for a year.

I dropped it off at CVS, and can pick it up at my earliest convenience.

Sweet.

If you're not in for A Procedure, PP's patient process is incredibly efficient. Even if you are in for one, the process is still efficient, it's just efficient on the scale of 'invasive surgical procedures.'

Also, yay getting necessary meds!

Some PP's will let you set up appointments online. In their form, they ask you if they can call you, and how they should identify themselves if they call-- You can either pick a drop down or suggest something to them- options they suggest include "Planned Parenthood", "the doctor's office" and "Cory". Really.

I think they're pretty fucking awesome.

PP is awesome. They have the super-simple process to get BC (as you know) and their prices for my BC of choice are also super cheap. And bonus- you can call in/online-order refills and come in and pick them up. It's something I really should get to doing except I am all lazy-like.

best $5 I ever spent was on a vasectomy. the process itself was painless (the worst part was freaking myself out beforehand) and recovery was 'less than a weekend of sitting on a bag of frozen corn'. nowadays most vasectomies can be reversed with > 90% success rate if done in less than 5 years, but there's always the sperm-bank (~$300/yr) storage option as well.
