RI connections!
May. 5th, 2006 06:26 pmSo, I went to apply for a job today.
I found it in the worcester want ads - Waitstaff needed, part/full time. Inquire @ Christo's.... bla bla
So I drove down to Christo's to put an app in for the hell of it. I mean, being a waitress is a job you can take anywhere, and is a good skill to have. So I walked in, asked the guy up front if they were still hiring, and he said "I just hired seven new people last week."
But he gave me an application and a clipboard anyway, and I thanked God that I'd put in other applications elsewhere. I filled out the application, feeling like an idiot, but hey, couldn't hurt to apply.
I hand it to him, he does a brief interiew asking about availability, hours, etc. and I answered, preparing to leave. He shrugged, signed his name, and said "Oh, you're from Rhode Island?"
"Yeah, but I live up here."
"Where in RI you from?"
"Warwick."
"Really? I went to Johnson and Wales."
So we chatted for a bit, and then he said "Alright, give us a call when you're free."
"Uhwha?"
See, I thought they would call me if I got the job.
"Yeah, you can start the day after Mother's day. Monday. Come in at 3:45, black pants, button-up shirt."
He gave me some details about training, certification in alcohol and all that, and then we were done.
So I shook his hand, smiled like a moron, and almost got run over in my daze.
I was definitely not expecting to be hired on the spot.
And Adam got his PLA job! YAY!
Celebratory dinner tonight.
I love RI.
