Elsa is home safe and sound.

She eats like a horse, is totally fearless, and follows me around like a baby chick. Also, even though she wasn't paper trained at the breeder's, the first and as of yet only time she's pooped has been on the paper. This will eventually transition to outdoor only, but for now and for a puppy who isn't big enough for stairs: small victory.

She does, however, whine constantly in the crate and needs to be offered food every six hours or so for another month.

She will learn to be left alone. It might suck for now, but tough love is necessary at nine weeks.

I have heard that using a clock that ticks and putting it next to the crate can help. Mimics mom's heartbeat or some such.

We used to breed small dogs and we found that if you have a stuffed animal about the size of the puppy for them it mimics sleeping with the litter and makes them feel less alone. Make sure the stuffed animal does not have "eyes" that are hard plastic and can be chewed off. This will happen and toddler puppies can choke on them. Doc is also right, having a clock that ticks is useful too. If you are gone all day having something that makes noise in the house like a radio or tv on is good. Puppies are so much fun!!!
