Hey, writer friends. Fanfiction or otherwise.
How do you deal with public criticism on your work? In comments, reviews, etc.
Do you feel like it keeps other readers from leaving positive feedback? Opens the door for more criticism? Happy that someone took the time to point out weaknesses?

And on the rare occasion someone actually gives you constructive criticism, it's probably because you had a reader who cared about the piece and genuinely wants it to be better.

If they are hostile, ignore. Do not do not do not take the bait. Don't be Jackie Howett. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2011/mar/30/jacqueline-howett-bad-review) Not that I believe that you would, but when somebody is openly nasty about your work, your best action as an author is to be silent.
