Here's a preview snapshot of my latest sewing project.

I'm adding more ribbons and pearls as I go. And because it's so detailed, it all has to be hand sewn.

I totally need pink and white shoes now. Maybe raiding the kids' section of Payless or something.

But, yes. Ridiculous.

Shoppingz?

I have come into possession of several associate 15% off coupons (courtesy of working at Millbury/Blackstone plaza) and need bathing suit type things, plus new summer clothes and stylish-yet-waterproof outerwear.

Anyone want to come shopping with me tomorrow? I can guarantee you a coupon, plus they're having a bunch of sales on top of that.

I've finished all of the stitching for the dress~! The photoshoot is on Friday, so I have to complete the whole thing by then, but at this point, it's just adding shiny and orchids.

The key words for the costume were "high priestess" (after the Tarot card) and "greenhouse" (the location we're shooting in). So I wanted the shirt and skirt to have ridiculous amounts of flowy fabric, and get the bottom to look like flower petals. Also, white and silver. That's it. As pure-looking as possible.

And to see how creative I could get with materials. xD

Make your own Priestess costume in five easy steps! )

Total cost, involving odds and ends: Roughly $25 for the whole thing.

More pictures to come when finished, probably sometime tomorrow.

I wanted another sewing project, so here it is!

White Priestess Outfit
Inspired by my Strange Boston character, whose tarot card is the High Priestess.

Starting components:
-Branch of fake orchids
-1 striped white sheer curtain
-2 plain white sheer curtains
-Skanky top from Savers
-White bra I no longer wear
-Tacky gold filligree heart window ornament
Total cost so far: ~$20

I wanted to get even more creative this time around, so no buying fabric for me!

Although this priestess outfit is looking a little like a slave girl so far... xD

Done!

I lied.

ONE shot of the dress. After that, y'all will have to wait and see. =)

The picture doesn't do the richness of the pink justice. It's gray out today, after all.

What do you think of the finished* product?

*"finished" meaning I just have to add a few stitches.
hazliya: (Default)
Okay, so after lots of feedback on LJ and twitter, I decided to try both colors of flowers to see which worked best.

Oh, man. The red looked really bad. That shade of pink is just too muted to work with red.

I think it's also the bright shade of red, too - it wasn't sultry, it was tacky.

But pairing the dress with white flowers and the hint of a red corset? Much nicer. And the pearls start to shimmer.

The only downsides to it right now are that there are a few spots where the red dye is slightly darker in a lace-type pattern (but only if you really look), the fabric is ridiculously wrinkly (but I'd been meaning to iron it anyway), and the whole thing still smells like cherries. Febreze, maybe? xD

Now to attach the bustle and I'm DONE. It'll be ready for my shoot in it on Friday.

Pictures will go up after TnD, when everyone has seen it. =)
hazliya: (pink falls)
Okay, looks like this dress has soaked up all the dye it ever will, especially after three different kinds of dye. And it's a better color than it was - dusky pink is INFINITELY better than lavender. Plus, it gives me the option to swap out to white roses/freesia on my hairclip/bustle accent. It wouldn't take a lot of effort, as they're pop-on, pop-off. Plus, white would look better with pearls. And I could even wear my cyberfalls with it sometime.

Also, it would be totally fitting for my character to wear this demure, modest dress with a bright red corset peeking out from underneath xD And it'd be perfect with a red garter.

All in all, I'm settling for the "this is an awesome dress, but it's not the *red seductress dress* I wanted." The seductress dress should be slinkier, anyway. Maybe I'll wait for red satin to go on sale and buy a pattern and make the damn thing myself.

That gown I'm tailoring for Tis no Deceit?

It has pockets hidden in the pleats.

Win!

So, the grommeting that I stitched into the back of the dress is apparently crappy. I'm very tempted to rip it out, but since I've already taken out the zipper, I'm not sure what to do at this point.

I do have a bright red and lace-trimmed corset, though. It matches the flowers, so putting it over the dress might be an option.

Sigh. I wish I knew more seamstresses. Maybe Aubrey can help me out when we dye the monster.

So that's where it stands now. Yes, it's temporarily purple. This will change when the dye arrives. Also, the tulle underskirt is flattened for now in order to make sewing a little more manageable. But when this thing fluffs, it fluffs.

More pictures under the cut. )

I'm in the process of removing the zipper from the back and adding in corset lacing (I got clearance leather grommet tape at wal-mart for $4 a roll!), hence the not-zipped-ness. The bustle is actually the scarf that came with it, just artfully bunched. Nothing sewn yet, just pinned. I'll also be ripping out the spaghetti straps.

The flowers on the shoulder are actually a hairclip made of pearls, roses, and freesia flowers, just like the bustle accent (which comes right off!). Both I made last night from scratch, which came out pretty well.

You would not believe how well this dress fits me. I am so excited. The beading on the bust has even grown on me a little.

What do you guys think so far?
hazliya: (pink falls)
So, the dress I'm wearing for Tis No Deceit is (hopefully) a big red faux-satin full gown with a bustle and some little clear glass beadwork. I'm making accessories for my hair and bustle using red and black roses, which helps with the Victoriana theme.

Speaking of victoriana, I'm trying to figure out whether to go in all decked out in rhinestones (no rhinestones in the flower accents) or pearls (with pearl/gold drops set into the flower accents). I'm not sure which goes with the overall theme better. I have equally as much jewelry made of both; they're sitting in boxes. It's just a matter of style.

[Poll #1383800]

I will start assembling them tonight and add in accents accordingly.

So, I've always wanted the Red Gown, like the one Satine wears in Moulin Rouge, but never had the impetus or opportunity to do so.

It's pretty much thwacked me in the face.

Lately, I've been lusting after red satin gowns, but reminding myself that satin is a bitch to upkeep. And expensive. And staining. Also, very unflattering in places and hard to work with (remember my Snow White costume?). But I'm in love with the idea of that kind of dress.

I wanted something completely sleeveless. Those v-necks tend to shape my chest in an unflattering way, and I'm very fond of my shoulders. Also, corset-backed and shiny.
And red.
Very red.

A confluence occurred to make these all possible, and I'm now well on my way to having said dress.

1. I found a light-colored satin-finish prom gown at Goodwill on sale for $25.
2. Aubrey is putting in an order for red fabric dye for her lab coat.
3. Said dress is the perfect length, and comes with an enormous sash that can be sewn on in the shape of a bustle and still have room to drape into a train, like the back of Satine's dress.
4. Said dress is lavender, and can easily be dyed darker.
5. Said dress is too small around the chest. Exactly the right tightness perfect for converting the back zipper into a corset-lace.
6. Said dress is spaghetti-strap, and the straps can be easily removed. As can the beaded trim.
7. It has been hinted at that I may play a seductress in an upcoming larp.

This is so happening. I'll probably have the dress ready and wearable by the end of next week.

My plan of action:
1. Dye the dress and sash.
2. Shape the sash and attach to dress.
3. Remove the beads and straps.
4. Convert the back into corset-lace.
5. Create some attachable accessory pieces (probably involving silk roses and gold/pearl drops) to decorate the bustle.

I'm so excited. I might finally get my dream red gown.

So, of the three sets of Cyberlox I ordered, all three have been made. =) [livejournal.com profile] elenuial wanted one 20" ponytail, and I wanted two sets of 10" pigtails. People wanted to see what they looked like fully assembled, so here they are.

Pictures below the cut. )

Also, you'll notice that I cut [livejournal.com profile] elenuial's into layers to keep it interesting. That way, the movement is different and it's not all one boring length. The pigtails naturally scrunch more, so you can cut them all evenly and still have them be all over the place.

I might add things like ribbons and foam accents (I actually do have a bunch of craft foam lying around) if I feel like it later.

I wore them around for a little while last night. They feel just as awesome as I'd hoped. =)

Find #1: Two pairs of work khakis to replace the ones that I've worn for 10 months and are finally beyond repair.

Find #2: Slim jeans with a sailor fly.

Find #3: Adorable $200 Steve Madden purse for $3.99.

Win.

I got a new corset for myself and one for my wife! They came in the mail today. Mine is silver embroidery with black trim, hers is a red bordello-style. And mine's a perfect fit. =)

Thing is, the place I bought them from usually tosses in a little something extra. This is nice of them, but the thing they sent this time was a thong. I cannot wear those things.

So, would anyone on my f-list wear or want to wear a thong? It's a kind of maroon/burgundy with embroidered same-color lace, highrise, with a soft mesh waist and little cream-colored leaves. Rather pretty, but not my thing.

You can just have it. Seriously.

I'm really proud of this one - it came out nice and crisp and dark.

Now, time to see who gets the reference. =)

Just went to the lingerie shop on Park I mentioned earlier.

They have corsets, tons of garter belts, and oodles of sets and other fancy things. All half off the lowest price.

I bought two bras, and was lusting after some of the corsets. A good selection of stockings and things like gloves, hats, fluffy slippers, and silky nightgowns.

So if anyone wants to make a trip to sexytown, I'm totally up for it.
