I really have this strong urge to make a steampunk wedding dress. It's in my head. I know the shape, the bustline, the materials, everything. Made of yards and yards of off-white lace, gold gears, white roses, and pearls and clock hands and satin ribbon and all that frippery.

I can easily get my hands on these things. And with this kind of drive, I could probably finish the dress in a week or so.

My only issue is this: What do I do with it? I mean, it's a huge freaking dress. You don't wear those every day. Or ever. And I don't feel like letting it take up space in my house.

That's the only thing holding me back from making this gorgeous monstrosity. After I finish it... what then?

EDIT: It's done!

Post on steampunk boards as a commission? There's probably a fair number of brides out there who would LOVE to have a steampunk wedding dress.

...Write a LARP with a steampunk bride NPC? (Or a PC if you wanted to lend the dress to someone?)

Let me pay you to take pictures of Alexandra wearing it?

Depends on if I actually make it and if it's in her size, sure! I'll probably make it corset-back, so sizing shouldn't be too big of an issue.

Reading this prompted me to look up steampunk weddings...

This cake looks delicious. I did not realize you could do stuff like that with cake.

I'd love to see what you could do with that sort of dress, even if only as concept sketches :)

I saw some wearable steampunk art being displayed at conventions. You get a big enough audience and you'll find some geek with a big enough wallet.

Found this through Google since we're thinking of having a steampunk wedding. Seriously, it's a big trend -- even if it's not me, I'm sure you could find someone to commission it if you advertise around.

I was wondering if you ever got around to making the Steampunk wedding dress you were thinking about?

I'm looking for one. :)

It was put on the project list, and will probably end up a summer project.

If I got commissioned to make one, that'd be a different story. It depends entirely on when the wedding in question is and whether or not I know the bride.

The dress looks great :) Definitely more traditional Victorian, but with steampunk accents.

I appreciate you letting me know you finished it. :)

I've been looking for a steampunk wedding dress or something I could turn into one.

I have a different dress picked out, but something keeps nibbling at me and I keep asking myself "don't you want a steampunk wedding?"

Anyway, what you're making sounds lovely.

One of the greatest and more changeable clothing items out there are simple, underlying, and comely dresses. Consistent if the medicate is brightly colored dresses
