Steampunk wedding dress?

I really have this strong urge to make a steampunk wedding dress. It's in my head. I know the shape, the bustline, the materials, everything. Made of yards and yards of off-white lace, gold gears, white roses, and pearls and clock hands and satin ribbon and all that frippery.
I can easily get my hands on these things. And with this kind of drive, I could probably finish the dress in a week or so.
My only issue is this: What do I do with it? I mean, it's a huge freaking dress. You don't wear those every day. Or ever. And I don't feel like letting it take up space in my house.
That's the only thing holding me back from making this gorgeous monstrosity. After I finish it... what then?
EDIT: It's done!

This cake looks delicious. I did not realize you could do stuff like that with cake.
I'd love to see what you could do with that sort of dress, even if only as concept sketches :)
